Letran shocks Mapua

THE LETRAN Knights underscored their intent to be taken seriously in this season of the NCAA as they upset the Mapua Cardinals, 76-65, in the last game of the opening-day triple header late Saturday at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Knights, who missed the playoffs last season, held the Cardinals to just two baskets in the fourth period that allowed them to come away with the victory.
Article continues after this advertisementKevin Alas was on top of his game, scoring 22 points while adding five rebounds, six assists and four steals. Jam Cortes added 10 points, eight in the fourth quarter, and hauled down 11 boards.
Allan Mangahas led all scorers with 23 points, including 15 in the third for Mapua. Fil-Palestinian rookie Yousef Taha added 10 points and 10 rebounds for the losing team./Correspondent Jonas Panerio
