4 killed, 11 injured as jeepney plunges into ravine in Kalinga
MANILA, Philippines – Four people were killed, including a baby, and 11 others were injured after an “overloaded” passenger jeepney plunged into a ravine in Kalinga province Thursday, police said Friday.
Chief Superintendent Benjamin Magalong, Cordillera Administrative Region regional Director identified the fatalities as Jearin Trixie Wayawa, 1; Virginia Guyang Dingal, 78; Lester Guisoben; and Binay Dalnag, 45.
He said the jeepney (AYA 262) driven by Dougan Lingayo was travelling along Furanao, Balatoc, Pasil at around 1 p.m. when the driver lost control of the vehicle after hitting a boulder. Lingayo fled the scene and was now being hunted by police.
The vehicle turned turtle and then made a seven-meter drop, Magalong said.
“It was further disclosed that the passenger jeepney was overloaded with passengers and commodities,” he added.
