San Pablo, Laguna board member dies a day after ambush

MANILA, Philippines–San Pablo Laguna board member Reynaldo de la Torre Paras who was wounded following an ambushed in the province Wednesday evening died on Thursday, police said.

San Pablo police said Paras passed away around 3:20 p.m. while undergoing treatment at the San Pablo Medical Center after he and his driver identified as Geovanni Legaspi Dumaraos were attacked on A. Bonifacio Street in Barangay (village) VII-C, San Pablo City, Laguna, around 8:20 p.m. Wednesday.

Superintendent Romeo de Castro, chief of police, earlier said that one of the suspects, identified as Eugene Rocaldo Bacoto, 25, was also wounded after Paras managed to return fire at the gunmen.

Paras and Bacoto were both rushed to the hospital for medical treatment, he said.

A follow-up operation is now underway for possible arrest of other suspects, he said. Jamie Marie Elona
