MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) suspended the implementation of the number coding scheme in the National Capital Region on Monday afternoon due to heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon or habagat.
“Please drive safely in the rainy weather and follow traffic rules for road safety,” the MMDA said in its advisory.
This means vehicles with license plates ending in 1 and 2 are allowed to use major roads in Metro Manila—except in Makati City—during the expanded number coding scheme’s enforcement hours from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
As of writing, the Makati City government has yet to issue an advisory suspending its number coding scheme.
Exempted from the number coding scheme are public utility vehicles, transport network vehicle services (TNVS), motorcycles, garbage trucks, marked government vehicles, fuel trucks, marked media vehicles, fire trucks, ambulances, and vehicles transporting perishable and/or essential goods.
