The Barge Premium Portland 2, carrying three crew members, drifted toward the shoreline around 5 a.m. after strong winds and waves severed its anchor line. The barge became stranded roughly seven kilometers from the town center.
Commodore Ivan Roldan, commander of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Bicol, said on Friday that no oil spill or environmental damage was detected in the area during their initial assessment.
“We are closely monitoring the situation and ensuring the safe removal of the vessel,” Roldan said in a phone interview.
He added that the PCG, along with the Provincial Peace and Order and Violence Group and local response units, is coordinating efforts to dislodge the barge.
No injuries were reported, and an investigation into the incident is ongoing./coa
