46 vehicles nabbed for being colorum and for overcharging in airports

MANILA, Philippines — A total of 46 public transport vehicles were apprehended in Philippine airports from June 25 to July 1, 2025, the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group (PNP AVSEGROUP) said on Wednesday.
According to the PNP AVSEGROUP, the vehicles included 28 public utility vehicles (PUVs), seven Utility Vehicles (UV) Express, and 11 ‘habal-habal’ motorcycles.
22 out of the 28 apprehended PUVs were from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). Five were from the Mactan-Cebu International Airport, and one was from the Davao International Airport.

The seven UV Express were seized in the General Santos International Airport for “multiple serious violations, including operating without public convenience certificates and lacking fare matrices.”
Meanwhile, out of the 11 ‘habal-habal’ motorcycles, 10 were apprehended at the Naia and one at Catarman Airport in Northern Samar.

On Wednesday, nine taxis and two ‘habal-habal’ motorcycles were seized and impounded within the Naia premises.
The units were turned over from the PNP AVSEGROUP to the Land Transportation Office (LTO) central office in Quezon City.
‘Fight equally’
In an interview with the INQUIRER.net on Wednesday, PNP AVSEGROUP Acting Director Police Brigadier General Jason Capoy appealed to the taxi drivers to “fight equally” and stop overcharging passengers.
“Brothers and sisters, I hope we fight equally. As for us, this is not a personal pursuit. We only acted based on the report. We are just helping our secretaries in transportation, and, of course, the LTO, being the lead unit,” Capoy said.
“We are all Filipinos. So let’s promote tourism. But we cannot promote tourism when we have persons who violate the tax rates,” he pointed out.
Meanwhile, Capoy urged airport passengers to report to the PNP AVSEGROUP should they encounter an incident of overcharging.
“They can take a picture or video of the taxi or the driver. Get the name, body number, plate number. Let’s report it to the LTO. We will accompany them to the LTO so we can learn and bring the abusers to justice,” he said. /apl
