267 private schools get OK to hike tuition

MANILA, Philippines—Two hundred and sixty seven of  1,666 private colleges and universities have been given the green light to hike tuition this school year, the Commission on Higher Education said Wednesday.

CHEd said the 267 tertiary schools given permission to increase tuition were among the 289 that applied for tuition hikes. They will raise tuition by an average of 10.11 percent per unit or P40.47.

Colleges in Metro Manila will increase tuition by P76.25 per unit, the highest in peso value among all regions but the lowest in terms of rate of increase at 7.5 percent.

Cagayan Valley schools will increase tuition by 16.37 percent, the highest among the regions in terms of percentage.  This translates to an increase of P54 per unit.
