Public warned against fake ‘no classes’ announcements

MANILA, Philippines — The public is advised to disregard false announcements about class suspensions due to the Habagat (southwest monsoon) on Monday.
Several quarters across the country on Sunday slammed circulating posts claiming that classes of all levels are suspended on Monday.
The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Guiguinto, Bulacan warned the public of information not coming from official agencies like the Department of Education and local government units.
“Public and private schools in Guiguinto have no official announcement suspending classes tomorrow June 30, 2025,” it said in a Facebook post written in Filipino.
It also posted a screenshot of a Facebook post of a page titled “Philippines Weather Advisory” saying that classes are suspended in several areas on Monday due to inclement weather.
However, a quick click on the link to the supposed list of areas with suspended classes will direct anyone to an online shopping platform.
On the other hand, the official Facebook page of the municipality of Bacnotan, La Union shared an advisory from the Provincial DRRM Offices of Region 1 saying that “there are NO SUSPENSION OF CLASSES FOR 30 JUNE 2025, MONDAY in the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Pangasinan due to the Southwest Monsoon.”

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Sunday afternoon said that the southwest monsoon, or habagat, will bring rains in Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Bicol Region, Mimaropa, Visayas, and Mindanao.
Meanwhile, the rest of Luzon will experience fair weather with chances of localized thunderstorms.
The Pagasa also said that the low-pressure area (LPA) spotted outside the Philippine area of responsibility has a low chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 or 48 hours.
The state weather bureau added that the LPA will not directly affect any parts of the country.
