PNP to deploy over 37,000 cops on opening day of classes

MANILA, Philippines — Over 37,700 police personnel will be deployed in various parts of the country as classes start on Monday, June 16, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP).

For Oplan Balik-Eskwela 2025–2026, the police said it would dispatch 37,750 police personnel to ensure the safety of students in 45,974 schools — 38,292 public and 7,682 private institutions.

Aside from its deployment, the PNP said it would also install 5,079 police assistance desks near school premises, which would be manned by 10,759 officers, while 10,687 personnel will be on mobile patrols, and 16,366 on foot patrols.

Of the 37,750, Central Visayas police dispatched most of its personnel, with 7,366, followed by Metro Manila police at 4,323, Bicol Region police at 2,962, and Eastern Visayas police at 2,376.

In Mindanao, Pthe NP said PROBAR (Bangsamoro Autonomous Region) will deploy 2,898 personnel across 657 schools.

“The safety of our students, teachers, and school staff remains our utmost priority. We want to ensure that our children return to school without fear or harm. Our police officers will be in every possible area to provide protection, guidance, and support,” PNP chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III.

“Oplan Balik-Eskwela is not just a deployment plan—it is our expression of commitment to nurture an environment where learning can thrive peacefully. We will continue to stand guard for the Filipino youth, rain or shine,” he added.

Additionally, PNP revealed that its personnel also helped in cleaning, repairing, and repainting school grounds, and have so far observed generally peaceful back-to-school preparations across the country.
