MANILA, Philippines — Concerned government agencies are prepared for the rainy season, which comes just as students head back to school next week, a Palace official said on Tuesday.

At a briefing, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro was asked whether President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. had issued any directives regarding the rainy season and the opening of classes on June 16.

“The rainy season… this coming June is really the start of the rainy season. And the concerned agencies are always prepared whenever the rainy season approaches,” she responded.

“We also spoke with the Office of the Civil Defense, and they have expressed their readiness. They said they are focusing on the prepositioning of goods such as shelter repair kits, hygiene kits, water filtration kits, air-to-water units, and many others. The Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Health, and other agencies are also prepared,” she also said.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration declared the official start of the rainy season on June 2.

It also advised the public to take precautionary measures against the impact of the heavy rains, such as flooding. /das
