There’s no classroom shortage in Manila although the city government will construct 12 more school buildings within the year. In fact, it will inaugurate a new school in the Tondo area by next month.

The announcement was made by city officials as they monitored the resumption of classes in three schools located at the Baseco compound in Tondo, Manila.

Mayor Alfredo Lim led the inspection at President Corazon Aquino High School and Baseco Elementary School, as well as the ongoing construction of the neighboring Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr. Elementary School, a four–story building that would be able to house 5,000 students once completed.

Manila Division of City Schools superintendent Ponciano Menguito said that since most schools operate on a two-shift basis, there was no classroom shortage in the city.

He added that 12 more school buildings would be built, in addition to the 74 constructed from 2007 to 2011.
