P10M worth of smuggled goods seized

MANILA, Philippines –The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has seized P10 million worth of smuggled DVDs, cellphone and laptop accessories, and drums containing an unidentified chemical, a Radyo Inquirer report said Monday.

In the report, Customs Commissioner Rufino Biazon said the smuggled items, contained in  a 40-foot container van from Guanghzou, China, were declared as housewares and consigned to Rickshaw Trading based in Quezon.

The smuggled goods arrived at the Manila International Container Port (MICP) last April.

Biazon said the BOC is set to file formal charges against the owner and broker of the firm while looking into its other illegal transactions.
