Gov’t engineer charged in court

A GOVERNMENT engineer will be facing court trial for allegedly failing to declare all her wealth in her Statement of Assets of Liabilities (SALN).

Lilah Rodas, engineer II of the Maritime Industry Authority in Central Visayas, was indicted by the Office of the Ombudsman in the Visayas on charges of falsification of public documents.

Bail was recommended at P24,000.

Rodas allegedly made it appear that the acquisition cost of her “jewelry, appliances, books, etc.,” is only P150,000 when the actual worth of these belongings was over P500,000.

Also, Rodas allegedly failed to declare the amount of P600,000 for two vehicles she acquired.

Under Republic Act 6713 or the Conduct and Ethical Standards For Public Officials And Employees, public employees and officials “have an obligation to accomplish and submit declarations under oath of, and the public has the right to know their SALN.” REPORTER ADOR VINCENT S. MAYOL
