MANILA, Philippines — A total of 17,996 out of 135,236 applicants passed the University of the Philippines College Admission Test (UPCAT) 2025.
This meant that the passing rate was 13.31 percent, 6.74 percentage points higher than last year, according to UP President Angelo Jimenez in a press briefing at UP’s Diliman campus on Tuesday.
“Those from public schools comprise 55 percent, while 45 percent came from private schools,” the UP president detailed.
“Three years ago, there were more from private schools than public schools – only 44 percent came from public schools while 56 percent were from private schools,” he added.
Regarding socioeconomic status, 21.5 percent of the qualifiers were from households with gross annual incomes equal to or lower than P200,000.
“[W]e doubled the number of first-generation college students from 6.6 percent last year to 13 percent this year. This is significant because first-generation college students in UP get a stronger fighting chance to uplift their family from poverty,” Jimenez noted.
