MANILA, Philippines — Five areas in the Philippines are expected to log the country’s highest heat indices on Friday.
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather specialist Chenel Dominguez presented the data in a public weather forecast:
- Sangley Point, Cavite City — 44°C
- Dagupan City, Pangasinan – 43°C
- Tayabas, Quezon 42°C
- Roxas City, Capiz – 42°C
- Dumangas, Iloilo — 42°C
The state weather bureau earlier warned that heat indices of more than 42°C up to 51°C fall under the “danger” threshold, where heat cramps and heat exhaustion are “likely.”
Heat stroke, meanwhile, is probable with continued sun exposure, Pagasa warned.
In Metro Manila, a heat index of 38°C to 40°C is expected, said the state weather bureau.
Pagasa announced the onset of the dry season in the Philippines on March 26, signaling the expected arrival of hot and humid weather across the country.
