MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte on the Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor) called on Filipinos to face the country’s challenges head-on, believing in their power to create change.

Duterte made the pronouncement as she paid tribute to the Filipinos who fought in the Battle of Bataan during World War II.

She marked this battle as an “important page” of the country’s history that serves as a reminder of Filipinos’ courage and heroism amid cruelty and oppression.

“Let us celebrate their memory by building a nation that will never again experience such suffering,” Duterte said in Filipino in a statement.

“With our love for the country and faith in God, let us face the challenges, carrying the belief that the power for change and a better future lies within us,” she added.

She also expressed hope that the heroism shown in the Battle of Bataan would continue to inspire the people, especially in the face of the country’s challenges.
