The Southern Police District (SPD) has created a special group to investigate the incident in which a grenade was left outside Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales’ house in Muntinlupa City on Wednesday.
Superintedent Jenny Tecson, SPD spokesperson, said Task Force Soldiers Hills will be led by Senior Superintendent Rolando Asuncion, the SPD’s deputy director for operations.
“Apart from investigating the case, the group will also ensure that Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales is safe and secure in her house and her office,” Tecson said in a statement.
“We are giving this case top priority. We have already taken the statements of two security guards and we are coordinating with the Philippine National Police’s and Armed Forces of the Philippines’ Logistic Support Services to check the lot number of the grenade and to whom it was issued,” she added.
The police have yet to identify the suspects involved in the incident.
The SPD and the Muntinlupa police have initially provided additional security to Morales after security guards at her residence in Soldiers Hills, Putatan, found an M-26 hand grenade inside a canister wrapped in a plastic bag placed near the perimeter fence of her house, a few meters from the main gate, on Wednesday afternoon.
The police have also viewed footage from a security camera near Morales’ house, but have refused to give details for security reasons.
Tecson, however, said details and developments in the investigation of the case will be made public if needed.
