Metropolitan Manila Development Authority will look into reported illegal salary deduction among its ranks.

MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Wednesday said it discovered an illegal salary deduction scheme perpetrated by some of its own employees in the payroll division.

According to the MMDA in a statement, some personnel in its payroll division manipulated the agency’s payroll system to take small amounts in the salaries of targeted employees. They were then diverted to their own accounts.

The involved employees were apprehended following the scheme’s discovery. Inquest proceedings have been conducted on them.

The MMDA then refused to provide further details when asked how many employees were found to be involved. Neither did they say how many employees were targeted in the scheme so as not to compromise the investigations.

However, the MMDA said a complaint was already filed by MMDA Chair Don Artes.

More complaints are also now being prepared, especially as further investigations show that more employees were involved in the scheme.
