Rainy season officially starts

THE rainy season has officially started, the government weather bureau Pagasa announced yesterday.

In the past five days, Metro Cebu experienced daily showers and downpours. The pattern will continue until October with a break in August, aid Pagasa Mactan weather specialist Bolivar “Boy” Artiaga.

Abrupt heavy rains will fall from June to August, he said.

This will be  followed by light continuous rain of longer duration from September to October.

“In August, there will be 15 days of rain and the other half of the month will be sunny,” he said.

Heavy rains yesterday were caused  by a combination of an “Active Low Pressure Area  imbedded in an Intertropical Convergence Zone” said Pagasa weather specialist Alice Canasa.

The low pressure area was spotted 330 kilometers east of Borongan, Samar and is expected to develop into a tropical cyclone  within 24 to 48 hours.”/Correspondent Jessa Chrisna Marie Agua
