Rama launches school caravan

SECURITY, safety, cleanliness and enough water supply for all public schools.

These concerns were emphasized by Cebu CIty Mayor Michael Rama during yesterday’s launch of the mayor’s caravan.

The two-day caravan is part of the mayor’s school development plan.

The mayor was supposed to visit 35 schools in the northern barangays but due to bad weather, he only made it to 14 schools.

One major concern of the schools, specifically in Pulangbato, a mountain barangay, was the lack of a perimeter fence and potable water.

Building a fence will discourage people from making the school a public passageway.

Rama said he planned to provide one school bus for every public school in the city.

The local school board will allocate P14.5 million to purchase chairs while the city will also provide 10,000 chairs, said consultant Ester Cubero.

The city tied up with contractors to select schools that badly need their assistance.

The schools visited are Tejero Elementary and Night Highschool, Hippodromo Elemetary School, Zapatera Elementary School, Mabolo Elementary School, Mabolo National High School, Abellana National School, Regino Mercado National Memorial School and Barrio Luz Elementary and High School, Banilad Elementary and High School, Talamban Elementary and High School, Bacayan Elementary School, Pit-os National High School, Pulangbato and Binaliw Elementary School./Correspondent Tweeny M.
