HAVING A HIGH-SCORING import and a deadly offensive duo in Mark Cardona and Sol Mercado, Meralco will have no trouble putting points in the board.
This means defense will be the key when the Bolts try to overcome the Barangay Ginebra Kings in their out-of-town duel of the 37th PBA Governors’ Cup set tomorrow at the Hoops Dome in Lapu-Lapu City.
“We have to show up with the right amount of defense to boost our chances of winning against Ginebra. It’s always tough to get a win against Ginebra,” said Meralco head coach Ryan Gregorio in a press conference yesterday at the The Old Spaghetti House at SM City-Cebu.
The Kings and the Bolts have 1-1 (win-loss) records going into the league’s first out-of-town game. It may still be early in the season, but the teams are already feeling the importance of piling up wins.
“The tournament format is so tough. We can’t relax because every game is a must-win game,” said Gregorio.
Tournament format states that the 10 competing teams will only play nine games each in the eliminations with the bottom four after the initial round getting the boot. /EDITORIAL ASSISTANT CALVIN D. CORDOVA
