THE UNIVERSITY of the Visayas Baby Lancers kept their winning run going in the national finals of the Coca Cola PBA Youngstars Basketball Tournament as they defeated a couple of highly touted foes in the ongoing competition that is being staged at the Treston Gym in Taguig City.
After starting the tournament with a split of their games, the boys of head coach Jaymar Canoy and team owner, Samsam Gullas, found their rhythm and is nearing their mission of annexing yet another national title for their fast-improving grassroots program.
They defeated the Laguna selection by the skin of their teeth, 69-68, as Leonard Santillan and Gerard Fernandez carried the scoring cudgels with 15 and 14 points respectively, during their game last Tuesday. Then, they hiked their record up to 3-1 the following day after they beat the Holy Angel University of Pampanga, 52-45. Santillan, the sought-after wingman of UV, topped the scoring department in that match with 20 markers.
The Baby Lancers were facing off against the Caloocan selection as of this writing with a slot in the championship game at stake. The team with the top two records after the elimination round, immediately advance to the winner-take-all title match. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
