MANILA, Philippines – Bureau of Customs Deputy Commissioner Danilo Lim on Thursday urged Supreme Court Administration Midas Marquez to resign from his post just days after the Senate, acting as an impeachment court, ousted Chief Justice Renato Corona from office.

In a statement, Lim said that out of “delicadeza,” Marquez should also resign since his boss has been found guilty by the Senate.

The statement came in the wake of Marquez’ announcement that he would resign as spokesperson of the high court.

However, Lim said that this is not enough.

“It is not enough that Marquez relinquished his post as the court’s spokesperson. The people demand no less than a resignation on his part,” Lim said.

“For the sake of delicadeza, I urge Mr. Marquez to resign from his post. Like his dethroned patron, Marquez has tarnished the image of the Supreme Court by choosing the side of the impunity and corruption,” he added.

Meanwhile, Lim said that though he joins the country in celebrating the Senate’s verdict, he urged the public to remain “vigilant” against corruption.

“I join the Filipino people in their historic victory against corruption and impunity. However, I urge them to remain vigilant. The fight is far from over. More than ever, the public together with all anti-corruption forces must close ranks and keep track of the process of selecting an independent, competent and pro-people Chief Justice,” Lim said.
“Be on guard,” he added.

“While the removal of Corona opened the gates for reforms in the judiciary, it has also attracted those who will use the people’s victory to advance their selfish interests. The people must not let their democratic gains be exploited,” the former Army Brigadier General said.
