Navotas lawmaker hits Corona guilty verdict

MANILA, Philippines – Navotas Representative Tobias Tiangco does not agree with the guilty verdict slapped on now ousted Chief Justice Renato Corona.

In an interview with Radyo Inquirer 990AM Thursday, Tiangco said the impeachment complaint was flawed in the first place.

The impeachment complaint, he pointed out, did not go through the correct process in the House of Representative, referring to the two hours it took to get 188 congressmen to sign it.

Tiangco also questioned the veracity of the pieces of evidence that were accepted by the impeachment court.

He cited the infamous “small lady” and “mister anonymous.” These spurious sources allegedly provided confidential documents to members of the prosecution.

The Navotas lawmaker lauded the not guilty votes of Senators Joker Arroyo, Miriam Defensor-Santiago, and Ferdinand Marcos Jr. who he believes are seasoned and sensible lawyers.

Tiangco said he supports the move to make the statements of assets, liabilities and net worth of congressmen and other government officials public.
