Drilon: High Court has ‘no business’ questioning impeachment trial

ILOILO CITY, Philippines—The Supreme Court should not touch or question the conviction and removal from office of Renato Corona as it has “no business” over the Senate sitting as an impeachment court in judgment of the former chief justice,  Sen. Franklin Drilon said Thursday.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the 1st Philippine International River Summit in Iloilo City, Drilon, an ally of President Aquino and a Liberal Party stalwart, said: “We are firm in our belief that the Supreme Court has no business in interfering in the business of the Senate as impeachment court.”

Thus, any move by the court to question or overturn the Senate’s ruling will be moot, he said.
