Today, May 30, is the 139th birth anniversary of poet and essayist Fernando Ma. Guerrero, known as the “Prince of Philippine Lyric Poetry.” Guerrero was a staff member of the revolutionary newspaper “La Independencia” and was editor of “El Renacimiento.” He later became the representative of the southern district of Manila to the first Philippine Assembly. The uncle of artists Wilfrido Ma. Guerrero, Leon Ma. Guerrero III and Carmen Guerrero-Nakpil, he died on June 12, 1929. Schatzi Quodala, Inquirer Research
