Sotto follows ‘people’s will’, votes to convict Corona

MANILA, Philippine – Senate Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III on Tuesday voted for the conviction of Chief Justice Renato Corona.

In his speech, Sotto said that since it was the people that voted for members of the Senate, they were the real judges of this impeachment trial.

Ang taongbayan ay naghahal ng mga senador mula sa ibat-ibang propesyon at estado ng lipunan upang katawanin at bumigkas ng kanilang saloobin. Ang tunay na hukom sa paglilitis na ito’y taongbayan. Nadinig nila ang dalawang panig. Tulad namin, hidni lahat sila abogado pero ang kapangyarihan ng demokrasya ay nasa kanilang kamay,” Sotto said.

“In my conscience I have heard their decision and I vote guilty,” he added.
