Caloocan checkpoint intercepts motorcycle rider with P1.57-M drugs

MANILA, Philippines — A motorcycle rider carrying a courier bag was apprehended at a Commission on Elections (Comelec)-imposed checkpoint in Caloocan City, where authorities discovered drugs worth P1,571,300.
According to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), the suspect was first flagged for riding the motorcycle without a helmet at the checkpoint in Barangay 171, Bagumbong, Caloocan City, on Wednesday evening, Jan. 29.
However, the suspect attempted to flee the checkpoint and was intercepted by police officers, the NCRPO narrated in its report.

Twelve kilograms of marijuana in various forms, 60 pieces of ecstasy tablets, two grams of cocaine and multiple bottles of liquid marijuana were said to be recovered from the suspect.
Article continues after this advertisementNow under police custody, the rider faces complaints before the Caloocan City Judicial Office for disobedience to a person in authority or his agents, a violation of Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code; as well as for violating the Dangerous Drugs Act.

“This successful arrest highlights the unwavering commitment of our NCRPO personnel to keeping Metro Manila safe,” NCRPO Director Brig. Gen. Anthony Aberin said in a statement.
“Through our proactive operations and strategic partnership, we will continue to dismantle illegal drug networks and ensure that our campaign against illegal drugs will be relentless and aggressive,” Aberin added.
