2 more bodies found, Davao City flash flood death toll now 29

MANILA, Philippines—With two more fatalities found, the death toll of the Davao flash flood has reached 29 as of Thursday 8 p.m., police said Friday.

Citing a report from Region 11 police director Chief Superintendent Jaime Morente, Philippine National Police spokesman Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr. said the bodies of nine-year-old Kent Angelo Taño and Cherry Saturos have been recovered.

Search and rescue operations were still ongoing for the missing three-month-old Mark Louie Falomar and 34-year-old Zaldy Supa, added Morente.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council has identified the previously recovered fatalities as:

A flash flood with waters reaching up to 10 feet high hit Davao City after heavy rains caused the Matina Pangi River to overflow, affecting villages Ma-a, Matina Pangi, Matina Aplaya, Matina Crossing, and Talomo Proper, according to reports by the NDRRMC.

Around 12,714 families have been affected by the flash flood, some 264 homes damaged, said the NDRRMC. The agency pegged the damages at P11,000,000.
