MANILA, Philippines—A spokesperson for the prosecution on Tuesday said that there should be no “middle ground” for the Senate impeachment court’s decision on Chief Justice Renato Corona.

Asked about Senator-judge Miriam Defensor-Santiago’s statement on suggesting that Corona should be reprimanded instead of being sacked from office, Marikina Representative Romero “Miro” Quimbo said a decision not to convict Corona would be a decision to acquit him.

He defended the prosecution’s view in the issue by saying that they embarked on the impeachment case with the goal of having Corona taken out of office.

Quimbo said a vote to have Corona admonished or reprimanded was a vote of acquittal.

“Any vote that is not to remove is a vote for acquittal.”
