Magnitude 4.1 earthquake jolts Southern Leyte

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.1 earthquake struck a municipality in Southern Leyte on Thursday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

The tectonic quake occurred nine kilometers west of Hinunangan town at 11:09 a.m.

It had a depth of 10 kilometers, Phivolcs said.

Instrumental Intensity III was recorded in Sogod, Southern Leyte, it added.

Phivolcs explained that instrumental intensity is measured by an intensity scale, unlike reported intensities which are based on how people felt the quake and its impact on the surroundings.

The state seismologist added that no damage or aftershocks are expected from the earthquake.
