MRT-3 posts 5.3% ridership increase in 2024
MANILA, Philippines — The Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) registered a 5.3 percent increase in ridership last year, serving 135,885,336 passengers in 2024.
According to its management, the record surpassed the train line’s 2023 load of 129,030,158 passengers.
The management also reported a 5.1 percent rise in MRT-3’s average daily volume, which climbed to 375,474 passengers last year.
In 2023, the train line’s average daily patronage was 357,198 passengers.
General Manager Oscar Bongon emphasized MRT-3’s reliability as a preferred mode of transportation in Metro Manila.
“In 2024, as the MRT-3 celebrated its silver anniversary, the line remained a trusted choice for passengers in Metro Manila,” Bongon said in a statement on Monday, January 6.
Article continues after this advertisementHe likewise underscored the train line’s efficiency in maintaining a consistent 30-minute travel time from North Avenue Station to Taft Avenue Station.
Article continues after this advertisementDuring peak hours, MRT-3 operated with 18 trains at intervals of 3.5 to 4 minutes, according to Bongon.
The management also noted that in 2024, it provided free rides to 938,412 passengers through various programs, including the Libreng Sakay initiative under the Office of the President.
