Rainy start to 2025 expected in many parts of PH



MANILA, Philippines — Moderate to heavy rains are expected in parts of the Visayas, Mindanao and Southern Luzon on  New Year’s Day due to the shear line and the intertropical convergence zone, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Tuesday.

In its 11 a.m. heavy rainfall outlook, Pagasa said moderate to heavy rainfall of 50 to 100 millimeters (mm) is expected in the following areas from noon on December 31 to noon on January 1, 2025:

  • Eastern Samar
  • Leyte
  • Southern Leyte
  • Dinagat Islands
  • Surigao Del Norte

Pagasa also said moderate to heavy rains may be seen from noon on January 1 to noon on January 2 in the areas listed below:

  • Albay
  • Sorsogon
  • Masbate
  • Northern Samar
  • Eastern Samar
  • Biliran
  • Leyte
  • Southern Leyte
  • Dinagat Islands

Meanwhile, from noon on January 2 to noon on January 3, the same rainfall conditions are expected in the following areas:

  • Cagayan
  • Apayao
  • Isabela
  • Aurora
  • Quezon
  • Camarines Norte

The state weather bureau warned of possible localized flooding in urbanized, low-lying, and near-river areas across all the affected regions.
