MANILA, Philippines—Remembering they are in God’s presence should keep government officials from using their power for personal gain, President Benigno Aquino III said when he addressed a  Christian group gathered for the 2012 Global Day of Prayer on Saturday.

“Let us remember that we are always in the presence of God. This is a reminder that can guide us not just in the way we pray, but in the way we live each moment of our lives,” the President told the Victory Christian Fellowship in Greenhills, San Juan.

“It can guide all of us—from the government official who faces temptations to abuse his power for personal gain, to the young child quietly considering whether or not to donate his toys to less
fortunate children during Christmas,” he added.

Aquino called for unity in prayer “as we move forward along the straight path—toward better lives for our countrymen, but also toward a closer, more prosperous, and more peaceful world.”

Leaders of the Christian community, led by Dr. Hugh White, also prayed over President Aquino after his message.
