Cebuano netters capture 7 titles
Cebuano netters dominated the 17th Gullas Cup which closed yesterday winning seven of the nine titles disputed in the four-day event held at the Cebu International Tennis Centre Inc. (CITCI) in Laray, Consolacion, Cebu.
Butuan’s Angelo Esguerra and Cagayan de Oro’s Dave Sebastian Mosqueda are the only non-Cebuano players who were able to hold their ground against the local juggernaut.
Esquerra outlasted Fritz Satera, 6-3, 4-6, 10-6, to capture the boys 18 title while Mosqueda drubbed Jarryd Laurel, 6-1, 6-2, in the boys 16 final.
Meanwhile, leading the Cebuano charge was Sally Mae Siso who won the premier girls 18 crown with a 6-0, 6-3 demolition of fellow Cebuana Crissianne Issa Kintanar.
Kintanar, however, did not go home empty handed after surviving Imaville Gervacio of Ozamiz, 4-6, 6-0, 10-5, for the girls 16 title.
Maimai Ceniza Bornia also denied Gervacio the girls 14 title beating the latter, 7-5, 6-2.
