MANILA, Philippines — Bulacan police seized P39 million worth of high-grade marijuana (kush) in a suspicious package received from a delivery service, the Police Regional Office 3 (PRO 3) announced on Thursday.
An unnamed female resident of Balagtas town in Bulacan province reported to the municipal police that her husband received a package sent by an alias “Paul” from Toronto, Canada on Wednesday.
She said her suspicions were raised since she had no relatives abroad.
The package was addressed to her sibling, who is jailed for a drug-related case.
Upon verifying the claim, the Balagtas Municipal Police Station with local officials and representatives from the Department of Justice discovered the package contained 52 sealed plastic sachets containing 26 kilograms of high-grade marijuana.
According to PRO 3, it was investigating whether the incident was related to syndicate operations or the international drug trade.
In a statement on Thursday, PRO3 Regional Director Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan said, “Ang pagkakatuklas na ito ay patunay ng ating patuloy na laban kontra droga sa rehiyon.”
(This discovery is proof of our continued campaign against drugs in the region.)
“Pinapalakas natin ang ugnayan sa mga komunidad upang mapigilan ang anumang gawain na may kaugnayan sa ilegal na droga.”
(We are strengthening our community engagement to end all activities related to illegal drugs.)
