MANILA, Philippines — The operations of the Light Rail Transit Line 1 Cavite Extension (L1CE) Phase One are set to commence on Saturday, November 16.

This was announced by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who also led the inauguration ceremony of the trail extension on Friday.

“Mag-start ang operation bukas ng alas singko na umaga,” he said in a brief ambush interview.

(The operation will start tomorrow at 5 a.m.)

“Kaya hinihiyakat ko lahat ng commuter, subukan ninyo at makikita ninyo. Napakaginhawa kumpara sa traffic na nararanasan natin araw-araw,” he noted.

(So I encourage all commuters to give it a try. You’ll see it’s very comfortable compared to the traffic we experience every day.)

The five new stations include Redemptorist-Aseana Station, MIA Road Station, PITX Station, Ninoy Aquino Avenue Station, and Dr. Santos (formerly Sucat) Station.

The L1CE is a public-private partnership between the Philippine government and Light Rail Manila Corporation.

It is projected to reduce travel time from Quezon City to Parañaque City to less than an hour.

Meanwhile, in his speech during the inauguration ceremony, Marcos vowed to boost the country’s rail transport system.

He said: “Our journey towards a more seamless and modernized public transportation system does not end here.”

“We are committed to building station after station, reaching as far and as fast as our people’s needs dictate,” he added.

Marcos also mentioned various key railway projects that are currently being undertaken by the government.

These include the Unified Grand Central Station, the Metro Manila Subway Project, MRT-7, the North-South Commuter Railway, MRT-4, and the Philippine National Railways South Long Haul, among others.
