LIST: Luzon areas to see heavy rainfall due to Ofel, Pepito

MANILA, Philippines — Several parts of Luzon will experience moderate to torrential rainfall from Friday to Sunday due to tropical cyclones Ofel and Pepito, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

In its 11 p.m. weather bulletin, Pagasa said that “[f]orecast rainfall may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas,” adding that “impacts in some areas may be worsened by significant antecedent rainfall.”

Pagasa said Pepito was last located 995 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas, moving westward at 35 kilometers per hour (kph) and carrying a maximum wind speed of 100 kph and gustiness of up to 125 kph.

It is forecast to intensify into a typhoon by Friday and may develop into a super typhoon by Saturday afternoon where “rapid intensification is likely.”

Meanwhile, Ofel was located over the coastal water of Calayan, Cagayan, moving northwestward at 15 kph)

It was packing a maximum wind speed of 130 kph and gustiness of up to 200 kph.
