MANILA, Philippines — Dengue cases nationwide declined by eight percent from September 29 to October 12, 2024, the Department of Health (DOH) said on Thursday.
In a statement, the DOH said that the 21,097 reported dengue cases from September 29 to October 12, 2024 exhibited an eight percent decline from the 23,032 reported cases from September 15 to 28, 2024.
The total number of cases nationwide as of October 2024 now stands at 314,785.
The health agency, however, said that the following regions reported an increase in dengue cases:
- National Capital Region (from 2,765 cases to 3,002 cases)
- Central Luzon (from 2,219 cases to 2,351 cases)
- Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) (from 2,907 cases to 3,513 cases).

Further, the DOH also noted that the number of deaths decreased this year as compared in 2023. The case fatality rate (CFR) as of October 26, 2024, is at 0.26 percent, lower than the 0.34 percent CFR of the same period in 2023.
DOH Secretary Teodoro Herbosa said that the coordination of the agency and local government units are important in combating Dengue in communities.
“We see in our data that the cases of deaths due to Dengue continue to decline. But we should not be complacent because the rainfall is continuous,” said Herbosa in Filipino.
He then reminded the public to regularly clean and maintain the cleanliness of surroundings to avoid storing stagnant water that may breed mosquitos and wear clothing covering most of the skin.

“If anyone experiences fever, headache, stomachache, rashes or other symptoms, immediately consult a doctor or the health center so a patient can be saved from death or a severe case of dengue,” added Herbosa in Filipino.
