MANILA, Philippines — There has been a significant increase in recorded dengue cases from January 1 to October 4 this year compared to the same period in 2023, the Department of Health (DOH) said.

In a statement on Friday, the DOH said 269,467 dengue cases were logged during the said dates this year — an 82 percent increase from the 147,678 cases in the same period last year.

Meanwhile, 702 people died because of dengue, which posed a case fatality rate (CFR) of 0.26 percent — lower than the 0.37 percent CFR in the same period last year.

The DOH noted that these numbers may still change due to late reporting from some areas.
