Palace promotes Banac as police lieutenant general

MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang has promoted Police Brigadier General Bernard Banac as police lieutenant general of the Philippine National Police.

Presidential Communications Office Secretary Cesar Chavez confirmed the promotion letter dated November 4, which was signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on Thursday.

Banac served as PNP spokesperson during the tenure of then-PNP chief Gen. Archie Gamboa from 2019 to 2020.

Banac graduated from the Philippine Military Academy “Tanglaw-Diwa” Class of 1992. He served in the administration, operations, and training divisions of the Special Action Force from 1992 to 1996, where he helped establish the elite reconnaissance unit.

During his post as Recon Company Commander in 1994, Banac led the arrest of five persons as well as the confiscation of firearms and dynamites during pursuit operations against the Abu Sayyaf Group in Basilan.

He also served as an aide to the interior secretary from 1996 to 1998 and was chosen as one of the country’s Outstanding Policemen in Service in 2012 by the Metrobank Foundation.

Banac was designated as the provincial director of Sorsogon province in 2014 and then joined the Directorate for Operations as chief of the Internal Security Operations Division.
