PNP arrests 7 individuals for selling registered SIM cards in NCR, Rizal
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) arrested seven individuals for illegally selling registered subscriber identity module (SIM) cards.
In a statement on Tuesday, the PNP-ACG reported apprehending three females and four males in Valenzuela City, Manila, Quezon City, and Cainta in Rizal province in entrapment operations from November 3 to 5.
Operatives seized nearly 400 registered SIM cards, priced between P14 and P3,500, with higher prices for cards already linked to verified accounts on payment service providers.
The suspects face charges for violating the SIM Registration Act and the Anti-Financial Account Scamming Act in relation to the Cybercrime Prevention Act.
“This is just the beginning of a series of operations targeting the illegal online sale of registered SIM cards. We will continue our cyber patrols and investigations until these cybercriminals are apprehended and brought to justice,” ACG Director Maj. Gen. Ronnie Cariaga said.
