Kristine’s damage to Calabarzon infrastructure reaches P1B – OCD

The total amount of damage to infrastructure caused by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine in Calabarzon areas reached P1,030,427,971, according to Office of Civil Defense Director Carlos Alvarez.

MANILA, Philippines —  The total amount of damage to infrastructure caused by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine in Calabarzon areas reached P1,030,427,971, according to Office of Civil Defense Director Carlos Alvarez.

This amount is from 24 local government units in the region, he said at the Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon briefing on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the damage to agriculture and irrigation amounted to P430,150,000 and P123,800,000, respectively.

Regarding damage to school infrastructure, Alvarez said Kristine left 262 destroyed schools in Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, and Quezon.

“While based on our latest DROMIC [Disaster Response Operations Management, Information, and Communication] report of DSWD IV-A, a total of two hundred eighty-seven thousand (287,000) families consisting of 1.2 million individuals were affected in two thousand two hundred eighty-four (2,284) barangays in the region,” he also said.

As of 8 a.m. on November 5, the total number of reported deaths due to the combined effects of Kristine and Typhoon Leon climbed to 151, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

It also said 134 were injured, and 21 were still missing.

The two weather systems, especially Kristine, brought massive flooding in various parts of the country.

This prompted President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to declare Monday, Nov. 4, as a national day of mourning for victims of Kristine.
