Marcos to local gov't units: Prepare for Super Typhoon Leon's impact

CALAMBA CITY, Laguna — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday directed local government units to brace for the impact of Super Typhoon Leon (international name: Kong-Rey).

He said this in his speech during the opening ceremony of the Maersk Optimus Distribution Center in Calamba City, Laguna.

“Unfortunately, there is another typhoon coming so we should prepare well,” he said in Filipino.

Leon’s eye was last seen 360 kilometers east of Calayan, Cagayan. It had maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gusts of up to 230 kph. It was moving west-northwestward at 10 kph.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 3 was raised over Batanes, the eastern portion of Babuyan Islands, and the northeastern portion of mainland Cagayan (Santa Ana).
