Farmer, son die of electrocution in Iligan City
ILIGAN CITY – A farmer and his son died from electrocution on Thursday in the hinterland village of Kabacsanan here, police said.
Police Major Zandrex Panolong, spokesperson of the Iligan City Police Office, told the Inquirer that the incident happened past 12 p.m. per reports received by Police Stations 3 and 6, and the Peace and Order and Public Safety Command Center of the local government.
Panolong did not disclose the identities of the victims, only saying that the farmer was 27 years old and his son, nine, both of Sitio Maglabid of Barangay Digkilaan.
The duo were heading home aboard a passenger motorbike or “habal-habal” after delivering coconut wine when the incident happened.
The motorbike outbalanced as it was traversing an uphill climb in Sitio Kalapanit of Kabacsanan village, throwing the victims into a cut portion of a 13.8 KVA high tension wire of Iligan Light and Power Inc. (ILPI). Both suffered severe burns and died.

The high tension wire was cut when a tree toppled by strong winds hit it around 11 a.m. on Wednesday. According to ILPI maintenance manager Dionesio Tano, residents in Kalapanit had advised passing drivers about the cut live wire, urging them to go slow and avoid getting near it.
Tano said the ILPI had extended P12,000 as financial assistance to the victims’ family.
