According to Phivolcs, the tremor occurred at 10:28 p.m. and was located west of Capoocan in Leyte. It was tectonic in origin and had a shallow depth of nine kilometers.
The earthquake’s magnitude was earlier raised to 4.2 while its depth was at 10 km.

There are no expected damages or aftershocks, the state seismologist noted.
Further, Intensity III was raised over Kananga, Carigara, and Leyte, Leyte; Naval, Biliran.
Instrumental Intensity III was monitored in the same areas.
A reported intensity is the strength of an earthquake as felt and reported by people, while instrumental intensity is measured by an intensity scale, according to Phivolcs.
Meanwhile, Leyte was placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 due to severe tropical storm Kristine. Areas under this wind signal may experience minimal to minor impacts from strong winds.
