Gov't office work, classes in Luzon suspended on Thursday, October 24

MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang suspended work in government offices and classes in all levels in Luzon on Thursday, October 24, due to the effects of Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name: Trami).

The suspension was announced by the Office of the Executive Secretary Wednesday evening.

“Upon the recommendation of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council relative to the forecasted continuous heavy rainfall due to Severe Tropical Storm ‘Kristine,’ and to aid in the rescue and relief operations of the government, work in government offices and classes at all levels in Luzon are hereby suspended on 24 October 2024,” the announcement read.

“Agencies involved in the delivery of basic and health services, preparedness/response to disasters and calamities, and/or the performance of other vital services are hereby directed to continue their operations and render the necessary services,” the announcement added.

It further said that local chief executives can cancel or suspend classes and government work in their areas, following the laws and regulations.

Meanwhile, suspension of work for private companies and offices is left to the discretion of management.

Malacañang also earlier announced the suspension of work in government offices and classes at all levels on Thursday  in the Bicol region due to the effects of Kristine.
