CITY OF CALAPAN — Work in government offices, classes at all levels in public and private schools, and sea travel from this city’s port were suspended Tuesday due to heavy rains brought by Tropical Storm Kristine.

All trips from Calapan City Port to Batangas Port and vice versa were canceled on Tuesday, Oct. 22, after Batangas City was placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 by the state weather bureau, according to the Philippine Coast Guard Oriental Mindoro Station.

In Pola town, Mayor Jennifer Cruz issued a memorandum suspending work and classes at all levels of public and private schools in the Pola District to secure students and teachers from the effects of the bad weather.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office recommended the suspension because of the continued moderate to heavy rainfall causing increasing water levels at various rivers and floodings in different villages in Pola.

In Socorro town, Mayor Nemmen Perez suspended classes at all levels, both public and private beginning Tuesday noontime given “the current weather conditions, including persistent heavy rains and the threat of flash floods and landslides in various areas in the municipality,” said Perez in a memorandum.
