LUCENA CITY — An outing among teenage friends turned tragic after two of them drowned in a river in Tanauan City in Batangas province on Sunday, Oct. 20, the police said.
The Region 4A police reported Monday that “Ron,” 15, and “Jomar,” 14, and their friends went swimming in a river in Barangay Laurel late Sunday afternoon.
The report said the two were swept by the strong current into a deeper portion of the river.

Their friends attempted to rescue them, but due to the strong current of the river and fear for their safety, they were unable to rescue the victims, the police said.
Village officials reported the incident to the police around 7 p.m. that led to the retrieval of the victims’ bodies.
Police are conducting further investigations and would subject the bodies of the victims to post-mortem examinations and autopsy to determine the cause of their death.
For now, the police have recorded the case as a “drowning incident.”
