MANILA, Philippines — Rain will still occur in certain areas of the country on Thursday, October 17, due to the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) and easterlies, the state weather bureau reported.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration’s (Pagasa) weather specialist Benison Estareja said the ITCZ will continue to affect the southern portion of Mindanao and Palawan, while the easterlies will influence weather conditions in Luzon and Eastern Visayas.
Pagasa explained that the ITCZ is the line where winds from the northern and southern hemispheres meet, while the easterlies are winds coming from the Pacific Ocean.
According to Estareja, the ITCZ will bring overcast skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms to Zamboanga Peninsula, Davao Occidental, Sarangani, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, and Palawan.

He also said that the rest of SOCCSKSARGEN, BARMM, and Davao Region will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms on Thursday.
“To our fellow citizens in the Visayas, expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies throughout the day. There is a chance of rain in the morning, noon, and afternoon, especially in the areas of western Visayas and the Negros Island region,” Estareja further noted in Filipino.
On the other hand, Estareja said the easterlies affect the rest of Luzon and the eastern Visayas and even anticipated to cause high chance of rain to the eastern part of Luzon.
As for Metro Manila and the rest of the country, Pagasa said partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms may be expected.
No gale warning was raised by Pagasa over any seaboards of the country for Thursday.
